AquaFed is a UN EcoSoc accredited partner of UN Water and throughout our history we have been an active member.

We put forward the expertise of our members and collaborate with UN agencies, governments and key partners, on global efforts to improve water and wastewater services.

Current priority

We are helping the development of the UN Water Conference in 2026. AquaFed is part of the core groups shaping three of the six ministerial ‘Interactive Dialogues’: Water for People, Water for Prosperity and Investments for Water.

Our objective for the conference is to ensure ministers are fully aware of the solutions our members provide and the best ways to partner and work with our members. This has been done through providing information which has been used for the official Concept Notes that will shape each the Interactive Dialogues.

AquaFed’s Water PPP Hub is a solution that we have developed as an output from the UN Water Conference. The Hub is to help governments build water and wastewater PPP project pipelines faster and more effectively, which in turn will help accelerate their progress on ensuring water and sanitation for all.

Previous work

One example is that we usually are members of the drafting teams of the annual World Water Development Reports – providing text and case studies of our members’ work.

Leading the UN communication campaign for the 2021 report on Valuing Water was a real highlight for us. We ensured UN Water undertook an active, participatory communication process with people around the world during the campaign – this was the first time UN Water had engaged with people in this way.

AquaFed worked with Women for Water, the Special Rapporteur on the Human Right to Water and Sanitation and Indigenous Peoples Groups to organize a Special Event on human rights, at the historic UN 2023 Water Conference.
