AquaFed Launches the New Water PPP Hub
1/27/2026
A new capacity development and training platform to help governments accelerate water and wastewater Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), was launched by AquaFed during the preparatory meeting in Dakar for the 2026 UN Water Conference.
The Water PPP Hub is an AquaFed initiative to help governments and public authorities, and those who work with them, to grow the pipeline of bankable and well-designed water PPP projects. The Hub is an online learning portal which highlights, simplifies and explains the best practical methodologies and tools available on all aspects of the PPP process, through summaries, podcasts and videos. The information is from trusted and validated sources, for example development banks and UN-accredited institutions.
All the information on the Hub is accessible for free once users complete a short registration form.
Launching the first phase of the Hub to international water leaders in Dakar, Senegal, on 27th January Neil Dhot, Director of AquaFed, said: “It is an honour for us to launch this project in Dakar. This city is a great example of how PPPs can be successful, but also some of the tough challenges that governments and private operators face in making PPP agreements work. The Hub puts all experience and learning like this from all over the world, and from trusted independent sources such as the IFIs, and brings that rich content to life, so it is accessible and simplified for everyone to use.”
Addressing the government representatives at the Dakar meeting, Dhot said: “To my government colleagues here and around the world, we call on those of you who are either considering, or who already have water PPPs, to register on the Hub. Please ask your teams to use it, test it, and give us feedback to improve it, because this is ultimately a tool to help you. We need a group of government officials to test and co-develop the Hub with us. The Hub is AquaFed’ s contribution to efforts to accelerate the implementation of SDG 6. We will be working hard on it this year, adding much more content and updating everyone on its impact at the 2026 UN Water Conference.”
The first phase focuses on guidance to set an appropriate governance and legal frameworks for water PPPs. More information is available by sending an email to: contact@waterppphub.org
