IWA Congress Brisbane - report back

The International Water Association (IWA) held its congress “Shaping our Water Future” in Brisbane, Australia, from 9 to 14 October  2016.  IWA is the largest network of water professionals in the world and AquaFed and its members have been strong supporters for many years.
The IWA congress brought participants together from over 108 countries in Brisbane. The next congress will take place in Tokyo in 2018.
AquaFed congratulates Ms. Diane d’ARRAS, from SUEZ as incoming IWA President. Find out more about Diane here (video interview). Read the IWA Press release. Diane has a long and international career as a water engineer and has led the R&D department of the Suez group for many years.

AquaFed has for many years worked with the IWA on promoting the Human Rights to Water and Sanitation. This collaboration led to the production of a Manual on the Human Right to Water for Practitioners (pdf) which was launched in Brisbane (read more). AquaFed’s Founding and Honorary President Gérard Payen was one of the key authors.

In Brisbane, two important IWA awards were handed out to Ms. Catarina de Albuquerque (the first UN Rapporteur on the Human Rights to Water and Sanitation, and now chair of Sanitation and Water for All) and to Mr. Gérard Payen, Honorary President of AquaFed who was nominated as the recipient of the 2016 IWA Outstanding Service Award, for his tremendous contributions to the IWA, including his ongoing involvement as Chair of the IWA Strategic Council and part of the Board of Directors.
